Are black apologetics considered an extremist group? I am conducting research and stumbled upon the Black Apologetics Ministry website after typing in "Black Seperatist." The Southern Poverty Law Center defines Black Seperatist (category) as a hate group. After visiting the ministry's website, I am uncertain if they are extremists. Please, any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! the SPLC didn't list Black Apologetics as an extremist group;however, they do list black separatists as extremists. I "googled" black separatist and the Black Apologetic Ministry popped up.
Key terms for philosophy, forming arguments, and engaging in debates or apologetics? What are some key philosophical terms and their meanings useful for forming arguments or engaging in debates or apologetics? For example, "ad hominem." (But not just logical fallacies alone).
How can I defeat people who read apologetics? I find it very hard to beat Christians in a debate, when they know so much about history and have read apologetics. Any tips on defeating them? Any good counter-apologetics sites? ANYTHING??
Please suggest a good Catholic apologetics book? I enjoy reading Scott Hahn, Kevin Orlin Johnson, and Patrick Madrid, but would love to know of more apologetics writers. I've read Karl Keating, but he's not one of my favorites.
What are apologetics and how important are they to our faith? So many people in the church today say; just believe and well thats enough. Thats OK untill you get challenged by another person or persons or you come upon a some sort of crisis of faith then it will wash you out. So I am wonder how important are apologetics today and wy are they essential? I have been reading some of Josh McDowels material on the subject entitled "Demands of verdict." Or for easier terms the youth version entitled "Don't check your brains at the door."
Where can I find Catholic Apologetics in regard to Non-Denominational Christians? Finding Catholic Apologetics in regard to Protestant Christians is quite easy to find - but I haven't yet found any in regard to Non-Denominational - even though they seems similar some non-denom believe they are neither catholic or protestant (personally I feel they are more protestant as many often hold the similar believes, sola scriptura, etc) Any Catholic apologetics in regard to Non-Denom Christians would be greatly appriciated. I don't mind protestant opinions, but I feel that many non-denoms step back and only argue against Catholisim yet tend not to have their own beliefs that are able to be argued for or against
How to make an Apologetics? How should a statement of the problem in an Apologetics thesis looks like? If iam going to make an apologetics on Thomas' notion of the soul against its critics, how should my thesis problem and sub-problem look like?
How do you feel about presuppositional apologetics? Presuppositionalist's believe that the word of god is fact- "Christian apologist must assume the truth of the supernatural revelation contained in the Bible (that is, the Christian worldview) because there can be no set of neutral assumptions from which to reason with a non-Christian, and apart from such "presuppositions" one could not make sense of any human experience." But then they go on to argue like this- "as assuming the world is intelligible apart from belief in the existence of God and then arguing exclusively on (purportedly) neutral grounds to support trusting the Christian Scriptures." This is a fallacy and a contradiction. A fallacy because it is circular argument and a contradiction because they would argue the faultily of other views on neutral grounds, seemingly disregarding their beliefs. Ask Mr. Religion-The solid ground you speak of I believe would go against "believing in god because of faith". "Persons that seek absolute proof of something are inconsistently applying logic and rationality" I liked this statement as well. Ok then why "faith and scientific discourse, the "fact" that the sun will rise tomorrow." I liked how you used the word "scientific discourse". We know what we do from scientific theory, which is basically an "educated guess". How does that fit into believing in an all powerful being who decided to create the universe? "Persons that seek absolute proof of something are inconsistently applying logic and rationality" So you would rather chalk it up to faith rather than say "I don't know how the universe came into being?" Which would be a more rational answer than having a presuppositionalist stance. Disregard the second and third lines of my about edit. above* edit, damn typos are eating me alive Storm King- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presuppositional_apologetics
Why do Christian apologetics go to so much trouble to water down the barbaric acts of the OT God?? Even 2,000 years ago Jesus could see how hideous & cruel the laws of the OT were--that's why he rejected & reversed so many of the Laws of Moses--like stoning an adulteress to death--or an "eye for an eye"--or "give your enemy no peace"-or "divorce your wife with a personal letter" If Christ could see they were so terribly barbaric--why do Christian Apologetics bend over backwards to defend the indefendable??
What are some of the apologetics websites Christians use to cut and paste with when they come here? or did you attend an apologetics class somewhere, cause id like to cut out the middleman and just when ever i have a question i can just go to the website instead of asking it here, k thanks
Christians: How do you feel about apologetics? Do you think the inerrant Word of God needs to be defended? I would also appreciate any links to a low cost/no cost on line apologetics course.
Is the use of apologetics incorrect when trying to support things outside of the realm of religion? Like with creationism for example or trying to rationalize taking some parts of the bible literal in regards to science. So I understand its usefulness when it comes to matters of religion and why we believe what we believe. Then apologetics belongs with the religion and not with the secular. What are your thoughts? No apologetics is defense of a certain position.
How do you successfully run a Christian apologetics website? Some friends and I recently started a Christian apologetics website (ContendforTruth.com). I just wanted some advice.
What is your opinion of Christian Apologetics? Do you believe they have a case in what they are saying? I"m not siding with anyone, by the way, but what do you think of Christian Apologetics?
What are the four styles of apologetics ? Based off of theological and philosophy of religions. This is help for a study guide for a midterm I am required to minor in biblical studies.
Apologetics, No. 5: How can we have morals unless they are given to us by god? Some people argue that morality can only exist because we were created as moral beings by a deity. However, evolution accounts for morality quite easily. Just consider how enormously successful we are as a species: Could we have the organised, highly technological, comfortable society we live in without morality? Clearly not. If we were all prepared to crack someone else's head with a rock to steal his lunch, we couldn't work together. If we didn't love and care for our children, they would die. If we didn't co-operate and put off immediate gratification for long term benefits, society as we know it could not exist, and we would be much the worse off for it. Hence, the tendency to operate under self-imposed codes of conduct is an extremely successful survival strategy, and is therefore strongly favoured by evolution. Agreed?
Why bother with apologetics? It seems so obvious that arguments using religious apologetics always end badly for both parties. Neither side ever really wins. Nobody ever gets convinced of anything. Somebody always gets their feelings hurt. There is nothing to be gained from it. The best possible outcome is that you feel proud of yourself, the other person feels hurt, and you look like a complete prick.
What is the meaning of the word "apologetics"? Example in sentence: The preacher studied apologetics. I have heard different meanings of this word, but never have been able to quite figure it out. One meaning I found in the dictionary for "apologetical" was apologizing for something one has done or said, but it doesn't seem to fit the context.
Does anyone else feel like we atheists should be the ones teaching courses in Christan apologetics? At least, for the ones who want to know the truth about the state of Christian apologetics. The ones who just want to feel all intelligent and superior can continue on with the brightly-colored, plastic apologetics that are most commonly available today.
What is the Catholic apologetics behind indulgences? Apologetics is sort of the reasoning defense of beliefs
why do people call explanations, and support of belief apologetics/? Such as Mormon apologetics, Catholic apologetics, christian apologetics? Isnt apologizing being sorry for something? how did this word come about?
What great Apologetics book have u read recently? I am currently reading Habit of the Mind by James W. Sire
Are questions about Paganism deleted when Apologetics simply cant answer them away? Several, mostly recently a question about the Mithras cult....but there have been several.
Do you think it would be easier to do a presentation on apologetics or theology? I still havent decided which is easier and I have to do this project in 27 days... someone help
Apologetics, No. 10: "How can the universe be so finely tuned for life, without being intelligently designed?" The problem here is that if you regard the universe as so remarkable that it must have been intelligently designed, then how can you argue that something which must surely be vastly *more* remarkable (an entity capable of designing and creating universes) can just exist *without* having been designed? All you're doing, by your argument, is trying to account for the order and complexity of the universe by sourcing it in an entity which is uncaused and uncreated... so why not just accept that the universe *itself* can be uncaused and uncreated, and cut out the middle man, so to speak? That is the most parsimonious explanation - i.e. you have the same argument in each case (that something remarkable exists uncaused and undesigned) but in one case you have an inevident god, and in the other you don't. Clearly, invoking the idea of a god is unnecessary and counter-productive, since you end up with a bigger problem than you started with (an unnecessary god to explain).
Why are apologetics not simply called rebuttals? If i make an argument about physics, and someone tries show it to be wrong either logically or empirically, that's called (at least attempted) "rebuttal". When I make a religious argument and someone tries to show it wrong, it's called "apologetics". Why a different term? I think it's a tacit admission that the "arguments" of the religious are not aimed a truth, but merely to uphold dogma. My third answer is case in point.
Why are Christian Apologetics so easy to dismiss? I used to love telling people about my proofs for Christianity, but when I was finally challenged with real counter arguments, I ran out of resources! Is Christian Apologetics just a "patch" for the Christian faith designed only to give just enough info to pacify pseudo-scientific and inquisitive CHristians? Because, as extensive as CHristian Apologetics seems, it just doesn't cut it in the real world.
why do people call the defense of christianity "apologetics"....? it seems like such a stupid term. Apologetics? Root word "apologize" I don't think we have to "apologize" for God. God's exisitence is so evident that you are stupid if you deny it. If anything, I think that these atheists should be "apologeticizing" to us for insulting our lord.
Are there any good Christian apologetics books out there for pre-teens? I know there are lots for adults, but I'm really interested to see if there are any for pre-teens. A list would be helpful. And while all answers and beliefs systems are welcome, I humbly ask that if you have nothing productive to add, please don't answer.
Is this what Christian apologetics sound like to the atheists? I used to believe in democracy, but I now know that I am wrong; that the king should have a complete control of me. The king is righteous. Yet, people do not understand me. It's okay; I know that this would be like explaining color to the blind. As long as I am right, I am not bothered. Still, you know that the truth is written into your heart. Please, don't be stubborn anymore. Accept dictatorship. *speaking in a subservient tone*
Who are Muslim apologetics? Should we be sorry that we are Muslims or be proud to be Muslim? Many Muslims are feeling the heat that non-muslims are putting on them about terrorism, polygamy, the Shariah and human rights. I believe that Muslims have nothimg to be apologize to anyone for. Those who want us to feel guilty of imaginary crimes should know first respect us as people and as acommunity. The Islamophobics are trying to make us compromise on our culture, religion and values. Muslims should try to live as pious Muslims and live according to the Quran. We know in the current world truth is dead, killed by the Huntingtons, Fukiyamas, Zakarias and other opinion makers of the day. The distorted image created by the powerful western media cannot be coountered by Muslims by being apologetics.
How do you clasp your hands in an apologetic manner? I can't quite picture it or see how. Any ideas?
Why do rich people have to be apologetic about their honestly accumulated wealth? I am so profoundly exhausted from constantly hearing the ubiquitous "I am broke" from those who are definitely not. Humility is one thing, but feeling uncomfortable about one's healthy financial situation is quite different. Why do I have to apologise for my hard-earned coins if I do not arrogantly flaunt them?
Are apologetics sufficient to demonstrating truth? For example, suppose someone demonstrates that it is possible for a large canyon to form over just a few thousand years. Is it fair to then say that all canyons on Earth were formed in such a way? Why or why not? Show your work; partial credit will be given.
Would anyone like to debate some Santa Apologetics with me!? I know if you all have faith and open your minds I can give scientific evidence that Santa Claus exists. Ever hear of time zones unbelievers? crombie : Magic Silly! You have to remember magic is outside the realm of science so therefore somthing cant be explained... unless it is in favor of santa then it is completely legit
Is the growth of subsidies to farmers in safe Republican states a trend toward Republican Socialism? I have been following some statistical reports that originate from various .gov cites that indicate that the steering of subsidy payments to here-to-fore non subsidized farm operations in Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas has grown in a sharp spike since the beginning of the current administration. Let the apologetics begin. >>>the subsidies argument is valid if you are trying to bash the Bush administration.<<< No bash intended. It was a self inflicted wound by those for whom you are in denial and it is documented. That is why I asked the question.
Catholic apologetics to defend against Christian Baptist? So I recently joined this Youth Group that is held in a Christian Baptist church. They are nice people, but i'm starting to think that they want to convert me. I'm not going to convert no matter what, but I feel that I want to influence them to convert back to Catholicism (they were once Catholic). Are there any good Apologetics that I can use to defend my faith specifically against Christian baptists?
