Why was the Roman Catholic Church the most powerful religion during the Middle Ages? During the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church was the most powerful religion. The majority of Europe during this time was Catholic. Most Catholics refer to this time as the "Age of Faith". I preferably call it the "Age of Ignorance". Why was the Roman Catholic Church so powerful during these times? What caused it to become this way all throughout Europe?
Is there a Catholic volunteer program where I can help the poor in the third world? I am 22, have some college but am not finished with it and not currently enrolled. I would like to volunteer for a Catholic organization which is active for the poor in third-world countries and regions. All I could find was Catholic Relief Services but you have to be 25+ and have your degree already. Does anyone know of an organization like this? Thanks guys. I speak English, nearly fluent Spanish, some Dutch and very little Japanese
I want to volunteer in a catholic mission in france, preferabley by the coast. Any ideas? I am a UK citizen with very little french but a great willingness to learn. I would like to volunteer for quite a while maybe 4 months. I would also like to be near the coast, around Bordeaux or on the south west coast. I have volunteered before in catholic missions in palestine and enjoyed it very much. I have some skills in gardening and woodland work.
Will a Catholic high school give me a significant boost in college admissions? The Catholic School: No AP classes, but plenty of honors. Not quite as many options. The Public School: Tons of APs, ranked by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the nation. Also, if I go to the Catholic school I will have to drop one of the languages I am taking (German and Spanish) and take theology. Normally, I would think the answer was clearly the public school. However, I hear that colleges are more likely to admit Catholic school students because the curriculum at Catholic high schools is harder. Is this true? And which should I choose?
Why does the Catholic church have to pay for criminal priests? Today I saw on TV an item about a lot of Roman Catholic churches in the US have to close down, because they have too much debts, because they have to pay for the child abuse the priests did. Why is it that the church has to pay for this? If I do something criminal my employer doesn't have to pay for it? What is the official reason that this is handled differently?
What is the most liberal part of the Catholic church for intellectuals seeking a commune? I wonder if I might have a vocation as a brother either teaching classical literature and philosophy or engaging in social work; however, my religious ideas, if they exist in the form of dogma, are extremely far left. They are egalitarian in sentiment but have no real ideology. I am Roman Catholic. Is there an idea oriented order where I might apply. And how does one apply to be a brother?
catholic???? ok my friend goes to a church called "st.marys catholic church" and we were wondering what is unique about it from other churchs like baptist and lutheran??????
Why do we still have publically funded Catholic schools in Ontario? As this election heats up, there has been debate about whether to fund non-Catholic religious schools. I think it's ridiculous, because I don't think that the government should fund religious schools at all, only public schools. Other provinces either don't fund religious schools at all or fund all of them on an fair basis. What does everyone else think?
What do catholic priests ask you at wedding consultation? I'm a little bit nervous about meeting with the priest about our wedding. We are getting married in the Catholic church. Can someone tell me what types of things they are going to talk to us about? I would like to be prepared. THANKS BTW, im not talking about the marriage prep course. I'm talking about the private meeting the a priest
As a Catholic, are ballroom dancing partners sometimes too close for good morals? As a Catholic, are ballroom dancing partners sometimes too close for good morals? I am the lady, sometimes, I do not know who will dance too close until it happens, and I do not want to be a source of temptation to others. Before I dance with a lot of people when I go ballroom dancing and that is the tradition that they change partners every dance. In that way I learn and practice different styles.
Are my contributions to the Catholic Church tax deductible? I want to know if the contributions I give during Mass to the Catholic Church are tax deductible. I am not talking about specific donations to specific religious charities or schools, but the general collections taken up during Sunday masses in the United States.
How do you win an argument with a Catholic? They don't rely on logic or reason with their arguments. They know that they are in a win-win situation because they have an unassailable authority on their side. They can call someone immoral for whatever they choose and it leaves the other person powerless to refute their claim. No one can go and ask god if it's alright to do something or not. This is why people get into Catholicism and morality: they know that it is a very powerful weapon of manipulation. It is the ultimate weapon of manipulation because it is such a sacred cow that it cannot be disputed without the disputer coming off looking like a wicked, no good person, while the self righteous Catholic accuser comes off looking like a saint and is therefore empowered. The best thing I can think of to do to a self righteous condemner is to laugh at them. Getting angry or belligerent just envictims them and empowers them. Can anyone else think of a way to defeat a Catholic moral manipulator?
What can collection agency in association with a Catholic hospital do to me for not paying? My son has been to the ER 7 times this year. 3 times to one Catholic hospital and 4 times to another Catholic hospital. All trips were results of his epilepsy where he suffered seizures and had dislocated his shoulder several times. My insurance thru my employer has paid their part. They are participating hospitals in my group plan. And now I owe one Hospital $1800.00 and the other one $2400.00 for the co-pays and deductible. I do not have the money to pay these debts as I am struggling to pay my high insurance premiums and as a single parent of 2 can barely make it from paycheck to paycheck. We live very thrifty and do without alot. There is a sign in the ER that says that they must treat everyone whether you can pay or not. I just got a letter from one of their collection agencies threatening to put a judgement against me.
How would you spice up a catholic school girls outfit? I'm switching schools this next year for my sophmore year and am going to a very prestigious catholic all girls school. The uniforms are, well, exactly what you would expect, haha, VERY bland and boring. I would get some really bright shoes, but we can wear only either plain black maryjane's or plain white lace-up shoes. How would you guys spice it up a bit and make yourself stand out?
Do you have to be Catholic to teach in a Catholic school? I'm teaching a computer class in a Catholic school for only one hour/day on top of my public school teaching schedule. (I just found out today and school starts next Tuesday.) I'm not Catholic, nor do I go to church. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.
What do catholic school teachers wear to work? I know students wear uniforms but I'm looking to get a teaching job (high school chemistry) and do not have my NJ teaching certification and I know you don't need to be certified to teach at Catholic School. Do the teachers wear uniforms as well? Does it differ school to school? This may be a silly question but I grew up and went to public schools and so did my family! Just wondering, thanks!
How many people did the Catholic church kill during the Spanish Inquisitions? It seems that Muslims are always blamed for being the most violent of the religious sects but isn't it true that the Catholic church ordered inquisitions throughout Europe, Russia, etc. The Cathloic church also aided in some of the destructions to the Aztecs and Incas in Mexico, Central America and south America. Which religious group has killed more over the last 1000 years? How many total killed were there during the spanish inquisitions?
How had the Catholic Church become too powerful during the Italian Renaissance? What SPECIFICALLY caused people to be FEARFUL of the Catholic Church during the Italian Renaissance? Some have offered the Inquisiton. But I can't find a connection between the Inqusition and Italy during the late 1400s and the early 1500s. The Spanish Inquisition is at the beginning of the time period I'm discussing and the Roman Inqusition begins at the end of the time period I'm focusing on. I'm focusing on late 1400 early 1500. Most specifically Florence Italy and how the Catholic Church made people fearful. This is a side trip on other research I've done indepth. I just feel I need to elaborate a little. All references I find merely say "the Catholic Church had become too powerful and people became fearful." I can't find details.
What are the best Catholic primary schools in Perth? My husband and I are moving to Perth in January. We'd like to enroll our boys (ages 8 & 6) in a Catholic primary school. We'd appreciate any recommendations. We are hoping to live in South Perth or the inner southern suburbs. Thanks.
What are those little Catholic statues called? It's something like "invokational" or "appreciational" or something. Or maybe it doesn't end in "ational" but it means like a statuette that helps you remember and worship or something. It doesn't necessarily have to be Catholic, but I can't think of others who use the little statuettes. I've trying to remember this word for 24 hours and I keep searching the internet, but it's not giving me the right word. I'll remember it when I see it.
Anyone ever convert to Catholicism to get lower tuition at a Catholic school? Transferring my 10th-grade daughter to a parochial school after a horrendous year in the public system. There is no financial aid for non-catholics, and a much higher tuition. Should I join a parish? I am a baptized Episcopalian who doesn't belong to any church now. My daughter attends a protestant church from time to time but is not baptized. I would join a Catholic church if it would help, but I fear they would want so much of my time and money that it would not be a wise trade-off.
Why does the Catholic Church so blatantly encourage their flock to break the laws of the land? What about the dignity of ordinary America citizens to be free from the massive illegal alien invasion that is crushing our country. Balkanizing our neighborhoods, overwhelming and degrading our schools, medical facilities, and most importantly, our quality of life? The Catholic Church and Charities apparently believe that they should not be bound by the immigration laws of our country. They have taken it upon themselves to defy our laws by illegally 'aiding and abetting' aliens to come, enter, take up residence and work here in America. That makes them criminals! They also conceal, harbor and shield them from detection in houses, transport them and engage in conspiracies with others to commit those same illegal acts. In their 'blind ambition' the Catholic Church and Charities are committing felonies, in violation of our immigration laws, because of their misguided religious fervor that facilitates and perpetuates the unrelenting illegal alien invasion of our country! Their complicity and duplicity is a national tragedy and an egregious sacrilegious disgrace!
Can someone explain to me the difference between episcopal and catholic? I want to get married in this church my fiance goes to "iglesia episcopal de la Ascensión" .. What is the difference between the Catholic church and the Uniting Church? I'm doing a report for school on different Christian Denominations, and i am to "compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the Uniting Church (of Australia) and the Catholic Church." but i can't find any. I am of Catholic faith, and I don't hav much idea about the Uniting Church. Could you pls comment in detail about the major beliefs, any special customs or practises of the Uniting Church, and any special roles for both genders. Thanks!! it'll be of BIG help.
during the 50s and 60s, what was the official position of the Catholic church ragarding interracial marriage? I'm really curious about the interracial marrige controversy during the 60s, and what people thought about it, especially Catholics and really the Catholic church. Were they for it, against it, or neutral? It happened so recently, and many people who fought on both sides of the issue are still alive today, and I'm curious as to what they had to say (I myself am a product of an interracial marriage). This is particularly fascinating because today it's an almost laughable notion that interracial marriages were once against the law. Please enlighten.
Why did Israel prevent Catholic clerics from traveling to Gaza? Father Manuel Musallam of Gaza City's Holy Family Catholic Church canceld it's Chrstmas Eve Mass to protest to the siege of the Gaza and told Ma'an News Agency "MIdnight Mass has been canceled because Israel prevented Christian clerics from traveling to Bethlehem." They have also canceled all travel to Gaza after ARchbishop of jerusalem Fouad Twal denounced the siege after a visit one week ago. Why don't they want the Catholics to be able to have access to the outside world? Gazan Catholics were also forbidden to travel to Bethlehem. Why? Are they supposed to be "terrorists"?
